About the event
We will explore Celtic spirituality and the awakening needed to heal our relationship with the earth. Using the book, Sacred Earth, Sacred Soul, by John Philip Newell, we will learn what seminal figures in the Celtic spiritual tradition have to teach us obout our relationship with the earth, her creatures, our fellow human beings, and the whole of the cosmos.
For nine sessions, on the second and fourth Sundays each month, beginning January 8 at 7:00 pm, we will discuss a theme of Celtic spirituality associated with a particular figure from the tradition. For each seassion, we will discuss a chapter of John Philip Newell's book:
January 8: Sacred Soul: Pelagius
January 22: Sacred Feminine: St. Brigid of Kildare
February 12: Sacred Flow: John Scotus Eriugena
February 26: Sacred Song: The Carmina Gadelica
March: 12: Sacred Imagination: Alexander John Scott
March 26: Sacred Earth: John Muir
April 9: Sacred Matter: Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
April 23: Sacred Compassion: George MacLeod
May 14: Sacred Journey: Kenneth White
Our group's exploration is intended to deepen not only our understanding but also our spirituality by engaging both the head and the heart. It is not mainly an academic course. The chapters are clear and easy to understand. Our group sessions will rely on Socratic questioning and freedom of inquiry to both learn and grow.
